Street Art

Bowling is big in Reno, and the National Bowling Stadium is a destination for bowlers from all over the country. This stadium is the only one in the world dedicated to the sport of bowling, known to some as “The Taj Mahal of Tenpins”.
Cars
For history lovers and educational outings: the National Automotive Museum is one of the best auto museums in the US. It is home to many unique vehicles, and some very complete exhibits of automotive history. Definitely a must-see, even if you’re not a car enthusiast.
Art
The Nevada Museum of Art is the top art center in the state of Nevada. A fully interactive museum where art can be seen and learned. There are many classes and education programs available.
Relics
The Will May Museum is a fascinating collection, belonging to Wilbur D May, a famous world traveler of the 20th Century. It is made up of interesting pieces acquired in over 40 journeys across the world. Exhibits include Egyptian Scarab figures, Greek Icons, and even a real shrunken head.
The Old West
Virginia City is outside Reno city, but it is a worthwhile destination for anyone interested in the history of the area. It became established around the Comstock Lode, one of the highest producing silver mines in the US.
It’s a charming example of an old Western town, which has been well preserved.
Mark Twain was believed to be one of the earliest residents of Virginia City, and there is a wealth of history related to him.
Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe, largest of the USA Great Lakes, is nearby, and it’s one of the biggest tourist attractions in the state. The 71 mile coastline of the lake can be driven, and it’s worth the journey if you have a day free between your Reno shopping trips.
There is a great variety of activities on the lake, from leisure boating to hiking to learning the history of the local people.
The region also has an interesting history of mining and its ownership debate between states.
Balloon Races
If you’re here at the right time of year: the Great Reno Balloon Race is a fantastic, beautiful spectacle. Sometimes over 100 hot air balloons launch at once for a race. The sight of all the balloons lit up at night or in the early hours of the morning is unforgettable. The event runs from the 9th to the 11th of September every year and is free to attend.
